The Ready Position

All strokes played in table tennis require a good stance.

One should start in what is usually called the ready position.

You should be crouched with the knees slightly bent so that it is easy to move.

The bat should be close to the centre line.

Consider the line of play; the position should relate to where it is possible for the ball to be returned to.

This is known as the line of play.

The position on the table to which the player has struck the ball determines the opponent’s options for the return.
